Fractional Shares
As part of an industry-wide initiative led by FINRA, U.S. exchanges are enabling the reporting of fractional share quantities. This update reflects the continued growth of fractional share trading, which allows investors to trade less than a full share and has become increasingly common. We are updating our systems to remain aligned with evolving exchange reporting standards and broader market structure changes, including the industry’s move toward extended 24xTBD trading (actual exchange hours are yet to be determined). As part of this effort, we will deploy an enhancement to our APIs to support fractional share quantities, effective February 23, 2026.
Note: This will not be a breaking change. After deployment, the API services and fields noted below may return fractional values.
- API Services: GlobalQuotes, GlobalRealTime, GlobalHistorical and NASDAQLastSales
- API Fields: Volume and LastSize only
Example Output:
- Before: Volume = 12852462
- After: Volume = 12852462.35
